What Are Shutters?

What Are Shutters?

An elegant alternative to blinds and draperies, interior shutters are the window treatment of choice for discriminating homeowners. What are they, how do they differ from blinds and what are their advantages? Read on to find the answers below.

A Definition

Shutters are a type of window treatment consisting of wood or faux wood louvers mounted in a solid frame. The louvers are manipulated by a tilt rod hidden at the back or in the middle of the shutter.

Shutters Vs. Blinds

While they do share similar characteristics, interior shutters are worlds apart from blinds. Blinds can be manipulated to control the amount of light and air coming into a room just like shutters, but they offer little in terms of insulation because of the material that they are made of. Our high-quality interior shutters are durable and built to deliver maximum energy savings. Their construction reflects intense heat out of the window during the summer and keeps warm air inside during the winter. This can lead to lower utility bills each month, leaving more money in your pocket.

The Advantages

Interior shutters are easy to maintain. A regular wiping down with a damp soft cloth is all that is typically needed to keep your shutters looking new. shutters also give homeowners near-absolute control over privacy and air flow. Additionally, their classic design complements a variety of home decor, making them a favorite design element of both interior designers and homeowners. Spruce Up Your Home with Shutters

Eclipse Shutters is proud to announce our all-new UltraSatin Finish interior shutters. Are you seeking elegant and timeless window treatments that stand out and command your attention when you walk through the door? If so, you will definitely want to consider upgrading to these stylish  shutters. UltraSatin finish technology is revolutionizing the way interior shutters are designed as this material matches the look of paint without the high maintenance of wood. The benefits do not stop here, however. Believe us when we say the demand for this window treatment product is going to increase by leaps and bounds, and here is why. Premium painted shutters look amazing, but like any painted surface, they are subject to fading, chipping, cracking, warping and need to be repainted every few years. Homeowners traditionally have had to deal with this trade-off if they wanted top-of-the-line window coverings, but not anymore. Ultra Satin finish offers the best of both worlds, for once treated, your interior Polyresin shutters will not require refinishing for up to 25 years. What’s more, the UltraSatin finish material is moisture resistant, meaning your interior shutters can safely be installed in bathrooms and kitchens without fear of moisture damage. They will also be microbial- and fungi-resistant, a definite advantage for homes that contain high levels of humidity. There are currently three neutral color options available for the finish: cotton, pearl, and vanilla. Each looks stunning in its own right and they are ideal for creating a soothing, relaxing living space.

Window Treatment Basics

Window Treatment Basics

Home and room design is mostly a matter of personal taste and budget. There are many elements of style that are part and parcel of a unified decorating scheme. Window treatments are one of these style elements.

Window Treatments Can Complete a Room

There was a time when window treatment options were limited to curtains and valances. When blinds became widely available, window treatment choices became more varied. Modern designers and many regular homeowners now realize that the right window treatment can complete a room. No matter what kind of decor you want for your home, whether it’s classic elegance, Bohemian chic or even the avant-garde, the right window treatment can help you achieve it.

Control Your Environment

Aside from being an expression of personal style, window treatments can also be a way for homeowners to control their indoor environment. Heavy curtains and well-installed shutters can help keep the heat out and the cold air in during hot summer days. In the winter, they can be used to maintain a cozy home atmosphere, sheltering you and your family from the harsh winter cold. The ability to control your indoor environment also gives you greater control over your energy use and consumption. The right window treatment can end up saving you money in the long run with lower utility bills.

Create a Private Space

Aside from being an element of design, window treatments also give homeowners a great measure of privacy. By simply drawing the curtains or closing the shutters, they can retreat to their private sanctuary in comfort and style, shielded from the prying eyes of the outside world. For all these reasons and many more, we urge you to find out more about our shutters. Save Money and Energy

Aside from being a beautiful addition to any room, shutters are an excellent way for homeowners to control their indoor environment. They are constructed to prevent heat gain during the summer months and heat loss during winter. This makes them amazingly energy-efficient while keeping you and your family comfortable throughout the year. You will likely notice a dip in your utility bill once you have them installed in your home. An energy-efficient house will always draw a higher price on the housing market. If you’re thinking of selling your house down the road, shutters are a great way to increase the value of your home.

They are custom-made for your home and are versatile enough to complement a variety of decor. But we’ve gone one step further and made it easy for you to maintain your shutters in pristine condition.

Keep the Household Cleaners in the Closet

There is no need to use household cleaners to preserve the beauty and natural look of your shutters. Regular cleaners may contain harsh chemicals that can actually harm or damage the shutters. Unlike other brands, Eclipse Shutters’ products are non-porous. This means they resist mildew or mold in high-humidity areas of the home.

Cleaning Is as Simple as Can Be

For regular cleaning, simply take a damp cloth and gently wipe the shutters with it. You can use mild soap if you wish, but if you do, run a clean cloth afterwards to make sure no soap residue is left behind. If you have hard water in your area, make sure you dry the shutters with a clean cloth to avoid nasty water spots caused by residual minerals in your water. If it’s been some time since you last cleaned your shutters, you may want to vacuum them first before wiping them down. The brush attachment of your vacuum will pick up most of the dirt and dust that has built up over time and prevent streaks across the panels when you wipe them with the wet cloth.

How To Clean and Maintain Your Shutters

How To Clean and Maintain Your Shutters

When decorating your home, you cannot go wrong with a nice set of shutters. Window treatments are functional, stylish and can add a ton of curb appeal and equity to a house. With a wide array of types and options, you have the ability to create a unique design your house guests and next-door neighbors will be in awe of! Interior shutters are made to be low-maintenance, but they do require periodic upkeep. The cleaning process tends be relatively easy, especially when working with wide-louvered panels.

Interior Shutter Cleaning 101

The environment you live in will determine how frequently you need to clean your shutters. Dirt and dust accumulation are more prominent in homes situated in close proximity to heavy traffic areas and near gravel roads. This is the inevitable price to pay when living in urban and rural places, but in any event, your shutters do not deserve to suffer. As far as dusting is concerned, you will want to avoid using feather dusters and other related products. Rather than capture the particles, they spread the material around and ultimately make more of a mess (not to mention force this debris to go airborne). Instead, use either a magnetic dust grabbing cloth or a vacuum cleaner. When using the latter, make sure to attach a soft-bristled brush to the end of the hose. To be thorough and avoid missing any dust, tilt the louvers so that you can also clean the rear. Another important factor to take into consideration is the material type of your  shutters. The three main types are wood, composite and Polyresin. Extra care should be taken when cleaning hardwood with damp cloths as moisture damage can occur if left in contact for too long. Composite is a bit more forgiving, but stay on the safe side by not exposing it to water. Polyresin shutters can easily be cleaned with a small amount of soap and water and a damp cloth. They are the most low-maintenance shutters that are available today and will last a lifetime with minimal care.
