Selecting the Proper Frame for Your Shutters

Eclipse Shutters customers make their shutters their own by selecting the color, louver size, tilt option, and frame. You may not have given much thought to what kind of frame would work best with your shutters and your window. However, it’s important both for style and functionality, to give some thought to that choice. You’re making a wise investment in your home by purchasing Eclipse interior shutters. The frame is an important finishing touch for that investment. We offer a selection of decorative frame options for inside-mounted and outside-mounted shutters. Shutters with an inside mount cover only the inside of the opening. Those with an outside mount cover the entire window opening, including the trim. Window frames with any kind of an obstruction, such as an alarm or hand crank and those with a tilt-in window need an outside mount. We also offer extensions for our inside and outside mount frames if needed to avoid the obstructions.

Window Treatments to Pair with Shutters

Among the things that customers tell us they love about our custom interior shutters is that they give rooms a nice clean look. Because they come in neutral colors, they go with any color walls and interior decor. However, we know that many homeowners like some color and fabric on their windows as well. They want the extra coziness and warmth without giving up all of the great practical advantages that shutters offer. You don’t have to choose between one or the other! shutters can be paired with many types of window coverings. Maybe your daughter wants Princess Elsa curtains to match her Princess Elsa bedspread (and rug, and dolls, and pajamas…). Perhaps you’re looking for a deep, textured drapery to give your dining room a little extra elegance. How about a bright window covering to match your newly-painted kitchen? Our faux wood shutters come in three neutral colors that can be paired stylishly with multiple colors and textures of window treatments.

Draperies and Curtains

A multitude of styles and textures of draperies and curtains can be paired seamlessly with interior shutters. You can go with floor length for an elegant look in your dining room, living room or bedroom. Window length is often used for kitchens, bathrooms and children’s bedrooms. The great thing about shutters is that they provide all the privacy you need when they are closed. This means that you can go with just side drapery panels for the added color and style.

Valances or Cornices

If you’re just looking for a little extra color and fabric in a room, but don’t want the expense or maintenance that draperies and curtains require, you may choose to put a valance or a cornice over a window or door with shutters. Valances and cornices come in a variety of styles, textures, and shapes. Whether you already have interior shutters and just want to spruce up a room or you’re going with an entirely new window treatment, you may want to consider pairing your Eclipse faux shutters with a fabric window treatment. The “Gallery” on our website shows a variety of our shutters without additional window treatments so that customers can see exactly how beautiful they are. However, there are plenty of decorating websites and magazines where you can get some great ideas for pairing fabric window coverings with shutters. Once you start looking at examples of how great they look together, your only problem will be deciding on which one to choose!

Alternative Uses for Your Shutters

Shutters add elegance and value to any home. They are beautiful and easy to maintain. They also help save energy by keeping the outside temperature from entering your home. Most people picture them on windows, but they are more than window treatments. They can be used throughout your home to bring a unique, sophisticated look to any room. Shutters Can Complement Sliding Glass or French Doors Faux shutters are a perfect addition to doorways leading to a patio. They’re a stylish alternative to the draperies and vertical blinds that most people use. They can close to provide privacy or stay open to let in the sun. Since they’re easy to clean, you don’t have to worry about them getting a lot of use as your family goes in and out of the house. They’re waterproof, UV protective and non-porous, so they will stand to the kind of use that your patio doors likely get, particularly in the summer. You can choose a by-pass, bi-fold or standard hinge track system depending on how you want them to open. If you have French doors either leading outside or between rooms, shutters provide an elegant complement to them while also providing privacy. They add a clean, elegant look to bedrooms, living rooms, hallways or wherever your closets are. shutter doors provide just as much privacy for your clothes or other belongings as traditional closet doors when the louvers are closed. You can choose from by-pass, bi-fold or standard hinge track systems to fit your needs. shutters are often used for closet doors in some of the finest hotels. They are a beautiful, practical way to break up your kitchen and dining areas, separate out part of your basement as a playroom, or create a private dressing area within your bedroom. As with shutter doors, you can choose the track system you prefer for your dividers. You can keep the shutters and louvers open or closed or a range of privacy options. Interior Shutters That Will Welcome Your New Baby with Style

When becoming a new parent, you want everything to be absolutely perfect for the newest addition to your family. And one thing that is a constant concern as you prepare for parenthood is making sure that everything in your home is safe and baby-proofed. Once infants become mobile and begin crawling around, there are a variety of potential messes and mishaps they can get themselves into. Wouldn't it be nice if you could have stylish furnishings in your home that were not only baby-proof, but also durable enough to look good well past the terrible two's?

Stylish Interior Shutters for Your Nursery

Eclipse  style shutters are made from a polyresin material that can easily be cleaned with soap and water. This allows for a dust-free environment in one of most important rooms in your home - the nursery. A major benefit for the baby's room, living room or any other room in your home is that Eclipse shutters are GREENGUARD® Gold Certified. The GREENGUARD Gold Certification is designed to define low-emitting materials suitable for environments where people, particularly children and sensitive adults, spend extended periods of time, in particular schools and healthcare facilities. Eclipse Shutters are also listed on the GREENGUARD website for Microbial Resistance and are non-porous, making it difficult for harmful mold and mildew to grow. As your child grows, you may worry about your child climbing on everything. The window sill, especially with an open window, is a major worry for parents. Interior shutters installed in the nursery are a quick solution because they block the window while allowing air to flow throughout the room. The frames and slats of Eclipse shutters have a cellular design, which traps hot and cold air and stops it from passing through the window into your home. You never have to worry about having to repaint or replace Eclipse Shutters. You can customize them to match any room color that you choose. These shutters are also durable and come standard with a 25-year warranty - the best in the industry! Install Eclipse shutters today and cross "safe window treatments" off of your nursery wish list!

Tips To Effectively Measure Your Windows for Interior Shutters

Proper fit is essential for your shutters. Measuring the window opening is not difficult, but it has to be done correctly to ensure that the shutters fit correctly and look their best. It is also necessary for them to shut out light and outside temperatures. When measuring, you should always use a steel measuring tape.

Measuring for an Inside Mount Installation

Shutters with an inside mount cover only the inside of the opening. To get the width measurement, you will measure between the side window jambs or casings. You should also take a diagonal measurement from the top left to the bottom right. The height is measured from the inside edge of the top casing to the window sill (or floor, if the shutters will extend that far). At Eclipse Shutters, we recommend measuring in three places for both the width and height. Measure the inside width at top, middle and bottom and record the smallest measurement and round down to the nearest 1/8”. Measure the height at left, middle, and right and record the smallest measurement and round down to the nearest 1/8”. If your window is 3/8 inch or more out of square, you likely need an outside mount.

Measuring for an Outside Mount Installation

With an outside mount, the shutters cover the entire window opening, including the trim. To determine the width for these, you measure the entire space between the outer edges of the side trim. Measure trim to trim width at top, middle and bottom and record the largest measurements and round up to the nearest 1/8”. Measure trim to trim height at left, middle and right and record the largest measurement and round up to the nearest 1/8”.
